Stand Up to Bullies

The parents and schools of Sonoma County want the best for their children.  But one problem lurks in the halls and walls of every school-  bullying.

The statistics are astounding:

•Over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year.

•1 in 10 students drop out of school because of repeat bullying.

•Bullying and harassment have been linked to 75% of school shooting incidents.

•Only 4% of the time will an adult intervene in bullying they witness among adolescents.

•53% of teens admit to having something mean or hurtful said to them or about them on the internet.

•43% of students fear harassment in the bathroom at school.

•56% of students have personally witnessed some sort of bullying at school.

And in this new digital world we’ve built, the bullies have gone online:

•43% of kids have admitted to being a cyberbully.

•81% of kids & teens think bullying online is easier to get away with than bullying in person.

•95% of teens have witnessed some form of cruel behavior on social media

•Only 7% of U.S. parents are worried about cyberbullying, even though 33% of teenagers have been victims of cyberbullying.

•Only 1 in 10 victims will inform a parent or trusted adult of their abuse.

The stations of Amaturo Sonoma Media encourage all students to stand up and speak out.  If you see harassment, or if you’re being bullied, tell a parent, a teacher or even a friend.  You don’t have to be a victim.
